50. Laiya Batangas - The Aftermath
April 28, 2008I will start from what happened after the Laiya weekend I had with my friends and officemates, not because it wasn’t fun, there are loads of stories to tell, problem is I still don’t have the pictures to prove them. I really don’t like bringing techy stuff to the beach. What’s the point of going to a vacation if you won’t disconnect yourself from the technology man invented and go primordial in the wilderness?
We went to Dona Nena in Laiya, Batangas and it was the perfect resort ever! We rented a three bedroom house which can fit ten people easy and our three day stay from Friday morning to Sunday afternoon only costs P10,000! Downside is we didn’t have a television and airconditioning, although it’s not really a problem until the last day. When it rained.
Saturday eight in the morning we went snorkeling on a place they called the submarine garden. It was a short boat ride and it’s where all the shallow corals are located. There was this one place where there were a lot of corals but the problem was it was deep already. Submarine garden depth varied from as shallow as five feet up to I guess, twenty feet deep. The boat rental was quite expensive considering how close the corals were from our beach. Although we still went through it. One thing I love doing when on a beach is snorkeling. Me and my friends have snorkeled everywhere from boracay to puerto galera to sorsogon with the butandings. Good times.
We opted not to wear life vests because you know, we are men! And we spent two hours snorkeling and feeding the fishes with bread. It’s sad to see that the corals in batangas are also bleaching. Bleaching is the effect of global warming where corals especially the shallow ones die because of the increase of the temperature of the water. It’s just so hard to imagine our kids’ kids won’t be able to see the beauty of the ocean because we couldn’t prevent global warming.
Before jumping in the water, my guy friends were all rubbing sun block on each other. I told them I do not want someone else’s hand on my back so I applied the sun block by myself on my back. Did I get to keep my ego? Yes. Did it work? A resounding NOESSSS!!!!11one.

The red areas are the burnt one’s which I did not reach with my fat arms and the fleshy normal areas are the places where I was able to apply the sunblock. I was walking around the beach with that back. Good thing there were no pirates or they would’ve thought that it’ was a treasure map or something. Positive side, at least now I know sun blocks work. Now I know that if a girl wants me to rub sun block on her back that she’s asking me because it is impossible to put sun block on you and not because it is something sexy. I am calling my mistake the SUN BLOCK FAIL!!!
The place was clean and it was so windy that there were no insects everywhere. But when it rained, the insects came and without air-conditioning we had to sleep literally with mosquitoes invading our cottage. As most of all you know I am fat. Also I am white, I am from Austrian decent after all, tell you about that next time, commonsense will tell us mosquitoe-s like dining on a fat white person and without air-conditioning I slept without any covers or blankets, just my boxers and this is what I saw when I woke up:

The itch was unbearable. I wanted to go to the hospital because it itches so much that I was literally using a fork to scratch places I can’t reach. I wanted to tear off the skin of my meat just to stop the incredible itching. Also, I tried counting the mosquito bites, I stopped at twenty.
So with the disfigured burnt back and the infestation of mosquito bites, I’d still say I would do that again. I still enjoyed it and it’s another beach experience I will remember. Besides, Stuff like these are all good beer stories so yeah. What the hell. Party On!
