84. Addicted to Plurk

November 15, 2008

Browsing through my past blog entries I stumbled upon my last year’s entry about the revolutionary way to connect with friends – Twitter. It’s the thing where you can leave stuff around regarding stuff that you do everyday?! Are you following me? No? Okay!

Anyway, after reading that damn awful post, I realized, I made an entry for Twitter and I guess it would only be fair if I make an entry about its baby brother – Plurk, which by the way, is much cooler than Twitter.

 yeah I’m addicted

 So what is Plurk?

A really snazzy site that allows you to showcase the events that make up your life, and follow the events of the people that matter to you, in deliciously digestible short messages called plurks.

 And what’s a plurk?

A plurk is a small message or link, less than 140 characters that you can broadcast to the whole world, your buddies or just yourself over the web, through instant messaging, and through text messaging on your mobile phone.

 addicted as well

It’s basically like twitter, but with a cooler and easier to use interface. I remember someone from TMB (can’t remember who) described plurk as the ugly child of a forum and a blog (or was it a forum and a tweet?). That kind of sums it all up.

getting very addicted

the rookie husband is also a rookie plurker

Plurk killed the TMB forums and now it’s killing our blog. Well, especially mine. I explained it to Maya earlier. Before, when I get an idea, I usually elaborate and expand it to form a blog entry. Nowadays, when I get an idea, I usually shrink it to a gist to form a plurk, thus, killing any hopes of having a new blog entry. I know right?

Not so much addicted

Plurk has caught on to a lot of my non-internet friends and I’m really happy that I’m getting updates every so often not just about their life but their day to day activities. Why I poke my nose in somebody else’s day to day activity, I don’t know why but it’s fun because somehow you feel that they’re someone near. And it’s really just what technology is all about right? Connecting people, or is that Nokia’s tagline?  Meh.

I am Joel and I am an alcoholic. My name? Joel Avatari. Yes, Avatari is my second name. That is why I am in i.ph because the url avatar.i.ph is so hard not to use. I live in the south side of the metro and I am not really a hardcore blogger. I blog when I have something to say or share. I also flame when I have to. In real life I am a work slave of an American company. I have been called an Asian monkey when I was in Australia and I I have hurled on the streets of clean Singapore. Oh did I forget to mention? I am Joel and I am who I am.
